Course Overview

The Markon Project Management Fundamentals (Construction Management) course provides a general overview of project management fundamentals with a focus on construction management. The course will start with an overview of the leading industry project management and construction management organizations and certifications. Standard project phases will be identified and understood.

The curriculum will explain common team roles and responsibilities, related software systems, and how teams and data interact throughout the project life cycle. Students will learn basic principles to set up a Project Management Office for Owners who have multiple concurrent projects. Simple, editable tools and templates will be provided for post-training execution. This course is UNCLASSIFIED.

Leigh Valudes, CMQ-OE, PMP, LEED AP

Vice President

Leigh Valudes leads the Solutions Division, focusing on Markon's core competencies. He is also responsible for corporate quality, innovation, Markon University, and intellectual property development. During the majority of his 25-year consulting experience, he was embedded with key government agencies providing expertise in strategic planning, mission analysis and implementation, requirements programming, program management, design and construction management, business operations, and advisory services. Leigh has supported some of the largest campus programs in the DC metropolitan area including the Intelligence Community Campus in Bethesda, $5.5 billion Pentagon Renovation Program, and $4 billion Department of Homeland Security Headquarters Campus Program.

Leigh received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and graduated from American University’s Washington National Semester Program with a focus on national and foreign policy. He holds the Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential, the certified Manager of Quality with a focus in Organization Excellence (CMQ-OE) from the American Society of Quality, and is a LEED Accredited Professional certified by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Jerry Himes, PE, PMP

Facilities Solution Lead

Jerry Himes is a highly skilled trainer with a wealth of project and construction management experience and credentials. As Markon’s Facility Solutions Lead, he is responsible for the training of facility best practices. A major highlight of his Markon career was leading the $100 million capacity Construction Management Technical Support Services (CMTSS) contract at the Pentagon. Jerry worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as the Resident Engineer of the Basra Resident Office in Iraq. There he managed a program of 36 projects valued at over $271 million. He finished his 20-year Army career working directly for the Chief of Engineers as his Secretary of the General Staff (SGS). He also taught Construction Management and Infrastructure Development at West Point for three years. After retirement from the Army, Jerry joined the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) serving as the Senior Facilities Manager and the Fairfax Residency Administrator for the Northern Virginia District.

Jerry is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Carnegie Mellon University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering, respectively. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia and Pennsylvania and is a credentialed Project Management Professional (PMP)®. Jerry is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the Army Engineer Association (AEA), and Project Management Institute (PMI)®.

Cancellation Policy

In the event you cannot attend a course you have registered for, you have a few options –

Cancel and request a refund: Requests must be emailed to markon.training@markonsolutions.com at least 30 days prior to the first day of class in order to receive a refund, less a $100 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued to "no-show's" who do not attend class and do not cancel within the allotted time period.

Change to another session date: Changing to a different session date is allowable at no cost if requested via email at least 30 days prior to the first day of class.
